Bathroom remodeling is a significant undertaking that requires careful planning and consideration. When embarking on such a project, there are several key factors to keep in mind.
First, consider the layout of your bathroom and whether you want to reconfigure it to better suit your needs. Bathroom remodeling often involves moving or adding plumbing fixtures which can introduce several obstacles that will need to be considered prior to starting. If you plan to move the location of your sink, toilet, shower or bathtub, it may require moving drains and, in many cases, they are located under the foundation leading to costly repairs.
Think about the style and design elements you want to incorporate, such as color schemes, materials, and fixtures. Select a color scheme that complements your style and creates the desired mood. Light colors can make a small bathroom feel more spacious, while bold colors can add personality. When choosing materials for flooring and countertops look for durability and easy to maintain options. It is advisable to select high quality fixtures, even though they cost more they will last longer and perform better.
Do you have family members with specific needs? If so, accessibility and safety should be a priority. If you have a shower tub combo it may be best to remove the tub and create a walk-in shower. Consider installing non-slip grab bars, a built-in bench and a handheld showerhead. Since serious injuries most often occur in the bathroom, choose slip-resistant flooring tiles to reduce the risk of falls. In addition, adequate lighting minimizes the risks of tripping, especially in the shower.
If you are concerned about the environmental impact of your choices, explore eco-friendly options. Designing an eco-friendly bathroom is not only environmentally responsible but can also create a serene and healthy space. Some suggestions would be the use of natural materials such as bamboo, recycled glass, tiles and natural stone. Installing low-flow toilets, faucets, and showerheads can significantly reduce water consumption without sacrificing functionality. Let the sunshine in by using larger windows, skylights, or sun tunnels to reduce the need for artificial lighting during the day.
Discuss your design ideas with your remodeler. Depending on your decisions your remodeler can provide you with a realistic budget that encompasses all the changes you want to make, from fixtures and tiles to labor costs.
Lastly, hiring a reputable remodeling contractor is crucial to ensure your bathroom remodeling project is completed to your satisfaction. By carefully considering these aspects, you and your remodeler can create a bathroom that is beautiful, functional and aesthetically pleasing.
